Quote Of The Week

"I'm not that good of a dancer, I'm more of an 'in the bedroom' kind of guy. I mean, I've got moves." ~Cameron Mitchell

"HIDE THE FOOD!"

Currently, I am sitting in my high school's computer annex in newspaper layout. I'll let you in on a little secret...WE'RE PLANNING THE APRIL FOOLS ISSUE!!!!! There is an article about how I am going to become a Swiss milkmaid, an article about Rebecca Black coming to my high school next year, an article about Newspaper! The Musical, and other really fun and wacky things that we would never, ever put in an issue of The Elm Leaf.

I love layout a lot. It's very, very stressful (usually), but it's also filled with the editorial staff doing really crazy things. For example, while the page editors are working on their pages and I have nothing to do, I either play QWOP or write lymericks. (If you don't know what QWOP is, you should look it up immediately.) When the editor in chief has nothing to do, she drapes her sweater over her shoulders and stands on top of chairs. And, toward the end of the week when we end up staying at school until seven o'clock, we order Chinese food. It's really an excellent way to get to know your fellow editors.

I really recommend getting involved in your school newspaper. Yes, because it is good on college applications, but also because it helps you get to know some people that you wouldn't necessarily meet outside of the class. And if you're already a member of your staff, try to become one of the editors. If you think, "Naw, they'd never let me be an editor," I say to you, "NONSENSE!" I never thought I'd be chosen as an editor when I put in for it my sophomore year, but I got it! See? Crazy things can happen. You just have to try.
