Prom is SO COMPLICATED! Okay, it might not be for all of you girly-girls or popular guys because you pretty much know who you're going to go with. Me? I'm a socially awkward young woman who goes to an all-girls school. Know who I'm going to prom with? Neither do I.
My teacher set up this "courtship seminar" last year so, yeah, I know HOW to ask a guy (not that I needed him to tell me in the first place), but my problem is a lack of guys to begin with. I had picked out my perfect date - he's one of my BEST guy friends, we have a good time together, and we're married on Facebook. The problem is, he says he has to work the night of my prom. He said he'll try to get out of it, but half of me wonders if it's just a lame excuse to get out of it.
I don't mean to complain. I really don't. But I hate it when guys act all wishy-washy like that. So I have decided to write a manual for guys once they have been asked to prom by a girl.
If you do want to go with her:
1. Say yes right away. Don't try to play coy or hard to get. It's not attractive. She'll probably ask someone else if you don't answer soon.
2. Find out what color dress she'll have IMMEDIATELY. You want to match her as best you can, PLUS you need to order her corsage early.
3. Insist that you pay for her ticket, but if she doesn't let you, don't get offended. It just means that she likes you too much to make you pay.
If you do want to go with her, but there's an issue...:
1. Say you have to work the night of prom. TALK TO YOUR BOSS RIGHT AWAY AND GET BACK TO HER ASAP. It's really annoying if you take forever to answer (trust me, I know).
2. Say you want to go with her, but you're afraid it'll be awkward because you're just friends. Make sure she knows that you just want to go as friends. Tell her that when you say yes. But don't be too obvious about it so you don't hurt her feelings.
If you don't want to go with her:
1. Just tell her. Seriously, if you don't want to go with her, don't string her along for months while you think up an answer. Let her down easy, but tell her right there on the spot.
Pretty much, be honest ;) Love it!
