Don't Waste Your Potential

Is there anything more awkward than sitting next to a person that you love to death but you're thinking, "My god, you are making the worst mistake of your life"? Yeah, that happened today. Actually, it happened three years ago, too, with the same person.

I hate it when I see people with limitless potential throw it all away for what they think is "easy." It can be something as little as refusing to join a club because you're "too busy." (Trust me, that excuse never worked where I'm concerned. I was in every club but one at my school.) If you're good at something and you like doing it, you MAKE time for it. That's life. You make time for the things that matter to you.

On a bigger scale, deciding what college you go to shouldn't be about how "easy" it will be. It should be about where you'll get the best education. Okay, okay. Rich white girl doesn't know anything about the challenges that people face when it comes to paying for said education. Actually, I sort of do.

Kent costs an average of $16,000 a year. Minus money for room and board, minus money from Honors College scholarships, minus money from Communications Factory scholarship, minus money from Domb-Fielder Scholarship. What do you get? $3,000 left. THAT'S how much my college costs. So you can go to a good university if you work for it. It can happen.

Don't limit yourself. You can be good enough. You just have to work your butt off and hope it will be worth it in the end. I'll let you know if it pays off, don't worry.

Expanding My Horizons

There are days when I say to myself, "Meghan, you are thinking too small." Actually, I never say that to myself. I have quite the imagination so I often think much too big. Like today. Today I thought too big and I might not be able to get out of it.

Today, I decided that I was going to start vlogging. I know, I know. I'm bad about blogging daily so how am I supposed to vlog daily. I have absolutely no idea how I'm going to keep up with this. I don't know if I will. But it seems pretty cool, so I'm at least going to try.

See, the cool thing about my vlog is that it's going to be about totally different things than my blog is. Okay, basically the same teen stuff, but not the same topics. Say I blog about Disney, I'll vlog about Twilight (not that I'd ever do that; it was just an example). That sort of thing

So definitely, definitely check into my vlog every once in a while. And if you know me, be sure to pester me until I keep updating things. It's the only way I ever get anything done.

Well, I had to do it sometime...

Hey everyone! I'd like to start off with an apology. From what I have seen on this site so far, most people are blogging about how to cook, how to follow/understand some overly-complicated piece of information, or how to raise a child. I'm not going to do any of that. I am simply going to tell you about things that I observe on a day-to-day basis as a high school teenager. I hope that's alright by you. It is? Good.

I guess I have some explaining to do. Why am I blogging in the first place? Well, last Thursday (I think) I visited BGSU. I'm in that awkward place right now where my mother is pushing me to look at colleges and repremanding me because I didn't visit them while actual classes were in session. Whoops. Anyways, while visiting the college, I was able to meet with one of the professors in their school of journalism (because most of the time, PR is thrown in a journalism program). The importance of internships already thrust upon us, my mother and I asked what percentage of the students had secured internships. The professor went on and on about various students and what they were doing that summer, but also mentioned one girl who was not given an internship because she had no blogging experience. So you see, I'm pretty much blogging out of sheer terror that I will not get an internship in the future. I also think it's been pretty fun so far, so that's a plus.
